Meet the Maker - Fraser Marchant

How long have you been with Sitting Firm?
I started working at Sitting Firm in the spring of 2021.

Tell us about what you do?
I take a piece of timber and work my magic to make furniture appear!

What do you love most about your role?
As an apprentice chairmaker I have had the chance to experience and learn the wide spectrum of skills that go into our chairs. From the initial machining all the way through to applying the final coat of oil.

What is the most challenging part about your job?
As we develop our own range of furniture we have had to problem solve new jigs and refining our production methods, it's an ongoing learning experience and one we are stronger for overcoming.

What are you most proud of?
I designed and produced the forming jigs used to make the distinctive steam-bent sticks for the Darwin and Austin chairs.

What is something on your bucket list?
I want to visit Denmark and experience their culture of Hygge.
