Tables for John Lewis

Article text
The Harpsden nest of tables comprises two small tables, which fit neatly under a larger table thus giving a good-sized coffee table with a pair of matching tables - instead of the usual nest arrangement of tables of three differing sizes. Attention to detail is everywhere; even the wood-turner's scribe marks can be seen where the rails meet legs. The 'green' credentials of the Harpsden tables are further enhanced by the naturally lacquered finish, which provides hard-wearing and durable protection, whilst retaining the character of untreated wood.

The Ashridge console or sofa table is an elegant and practical addition to areas where space is limited, for example in a hallway. Its painted stretcher, which links the legs and gives great strength to the construction, has elegant 'crinoline' steam-bent bows - a chair maker’s speciality, typical of the Sitting Firm workshop.

The Kennet side table - ingeniously versatile - features a lift-off tray. Traditional 'Shaker' steam-bending techniques are used for the rim of the tray, which has an easy wipe linoleum surface. Furniture linoleum is a natural product created from linseed oil, rosin, limestone, and very finely ground wood flour.

All items in the collection can be ordered from John Lewis, either online or in any of their stores.
